Ghadames

Ghadames is the The ancient desert Oasis town of Ghadames is internationally known for its peace and tranquillity. Visited by many tourists and a must for any visitor to the great Libyan Sahara. Tiny streets, mud brick architecture houses, the old town , and the colourful hand woven rugs are the most interesting highlights of this desert oasis.

Akaba and El Atike Muslim historicsal mosques built by the Arabs around 600 AD can still be visited. The colourful Tradition of the once inhibitors are still reflected in a cultural festival that is held once a year featuring music, camel racing, folklore displays and recently cross desert Motor and Motorbike racing.

Ramlet Dawada

Ramlet Dawada ( Lakes in the desert!)

This platform of desert dunes, oasis, and lakes is the most natural beauty of all times. Situated on the south eastern side of the Oubari Sand Sea. It is the home of the great lakes in the middle of the desert. The lakes are surrounded by sand dunes and can be accessed by four wheel drive vehicles. Palms trees surrounding the lakes which reflects the pure natural colours of the Rainbow. One of the lakes; namely Lake Mavo, its water changes from red to blue to green. Lake Gabaroun has a marine water saltier than the Dead Sea which reflects the historical background that all this desert was once a very big sea. Visit Mandara Oasis with its Palm Trees and rest under the shades. Ramlat Dawada is also a nearby Oasis with few palm trees scattered around.

The Akakus Mountains

The Akakus Mountains Hidden away in the far south--western part of the Libyan Sahara, near the Libyan--Algerian--Niger boarders. The Akakus Mountains with its Sandstone rocks is one of Libya's remarkable natural historical sites and a natural museum. Erosion has played its part throughout these thousands of years, but they still rise across a magnificent landscape.
Many
Neolithic cave paintings representing animal life that was once abundant in the Sahara and drawings that extends more than ten thousand years can still be found in the area. These mountains are home to the tribes of Tuareq.

Wadi Mathendush

The Valley of  Mathendush is an open air gallery of arts that nature had preserved it miraculously all these years. Unlike the findings in the  Akakus Mountains, the Neolithic art of Engravings in these rocks are the predominant features of the art gallery. Rocks are engraved with Mammals that once lived in the area ages ago..
